Burwell Park

Burwell Park, also known as the Charles H. Burwell Historic Site, is a very unique part of the Minnetonka Park System. It is the only site in Minnetonka on the National Register of Historic Places, a listing that reflects the historic significance of this park. Burwell Park is located at 13209 E. McGinty Road, along the banks of Minnehaha Creek and near the intersection of Minnetonka Boulevard and Plymouth Road. The historic site is five acres in size, and there is some additional acreage to the west of the historic site.

The park includes an 1883 Italianate Victorian home built by Charles and Mary Burwell. It also includes a woodshed, a cottage, an icehouse, the former Minnetonka Mill office, and the ruins of the barn. The buildings were recently restored. The house is furnished with Burwell and period pieces, most of which are owned by the Minnetonka Historical Society.

Today the site offers free public tours from June to September on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and serves as the site of several special events. People who enjoy a quiet picnic lunch on the banks of the creek also passively use the park. It is also used for photographs because it is so picturesque. The Minnetonka Historical Society operates their museum from the former Mill Office building.
