Water Resources
Minnetonka borders Gray’s Bay—the downstream end of Lake Minnetonka where Minnehaha Creek begins. In addition to Minnehaha Creek, three other creeks drain the city: Bassett Creek in the northeast, Purgatory Creek in the southwest, and Nine Mile Creek in the southeast. Minnehaha and Bassett Creeks flow out of the city toward the Mississippi River; Purgatory and Nine Mile Creeks flow toward the Minnesota River. Minnetonka is also dotted with over 500 wetlands and many lakes including Crane Lake, Shady Oak Lake, and Glen Lake.
