Current details
In July, the Minnetonka traffic unit, along with traffic officers from Plymouth, Maple Grove, Bloomington and Golden Valley, will work traffic saturations in the following areas of Minnetonka:
- Enforcing red light violations at Hwy. 7 and Hopkins Crossroad
- Enforcing red light violations at Excelsior Boulevard and Shady Oak Road
- Enforcing speed limits and seat belt compliance on I-494 (northbound and southbound lanes)
- Conducting DWI enforcement on Friday evening, July 18, along I-494
July 7 traffic saturations a success
Each year, hundreds of vehicles crash in Minnetonka’s roadway intersections because drivers try to “beat” the red light. On Monday, July 7, the Minnetonka Police Department’s traffic unit conducted three traffic saturations at the city’s busiest intersections, including Hwy. 7 and Hopkins Crossroad, Excelsior Boulevard and Shady Oak Road, and County Road 101 and Hwy. 7, in an effort to promote traffic safety and reduce the number of red light violators.
With the help of three local business and/or organizations located near these intersections, officers made contact with 153 drivers, issuing 32 traffic citations and 121 verbal warnings for miscellaneous violations, including red light violations.
The police department thanks Cub Foods at County Road 101, the Mobil gas station at Hopkins Crossroad, and Cross of Glory Lutheran Church on Shady Oak Road for their assistance and support with this traffic saturation project.
