Elementary school program

A presentation in an elementary school classroom. In celebration of fire safety week in October, public education specialists give presentations at the elementary schools within the city. Students receive “What If?” presentations in kindergarten, second and fourth grades, where they learn about fire safety as well as how to be prepared for other possible emergencies. Students are encouraged to practice crawling through a prop window to learn how it might feel in a fire. They also practice calling 9-1-1 on a simulator. Older students enjoy seeing fire demonstrations in the classroom. All students engage in a question-and-answer session while watching firefighters put on and take off their fire gear, including air mask, air pack and helmet.
