Nuisance properties
A nuisance property is a property with violations that affect public health, peace, safety, and/or general welfare of the community. Examples of nuisance properties include a home in a state of disrepair; a yard with excessive litter or overgrown grass and weeds; or a property on which unlicensed vehicles are parked.
A nuisance violation is a violation of the city’s nuisance ordinances covered in Sections 835 and/or 845 of the Code of Ordinances.
If you find these violations in your neighborhood
First, talk to the property owner about the situation and possibly offer them help in correcting the problem. Use the brochure “City of Minnetonka Ordinances: A Guide for Residents,” available for download online or in the Minnetonka City Hall lobby, as a guide for discussing the issue.
Second, schedule a free mediation session to discuss your concerns and how the situation/violations affect your neighborhood. Learn more about mediation
Third, after exhausting all avenues to resolve the situation/violation with the neighboring property owner, make a request for investigation online through Minnetonka Mike, or call the city’s Environmental Health division at 952.939.8200 to make a request, and city staff will investigate the situation/violation.
