- Juvenile Diversion Program leader
Do you work effectively with young people? Then consider participating in this program that offers first-time youth offenders a positive alternative to juvenile court. The goal of the program is to hold youth accountable for their actions while giving them the tools to ensure they don’t re-offend. Volunteers, working in teams of two, receive training from the Northern Star Council. Programs are held weekly; a three-month commitment is necessary. Background check is necessary. - Police Reserve
As a member of the Minnetonka Police Reserve, you are an unarmed, uniformed assistant to the department in a variety of functions: performing community service tasks and assisting during natural disasters as well as other emergencies. You must be 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen by birth or naturalization; must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record; be in good physical condition; pass a background check. Training is provided. Members must attend a monthly meeting, as well as volunteer 10 hours of service per month.

- Storm drain monitor
Residents inspect a storm drain weekly in their neighborhoods to keep it free of debris. Contact Minnetonka Public Works at 952.988.8400.
- Habitat restoration
Volunteers make a big difference on habitat restoration projects. This is especially true in areas where extra care needs to be taken to save remnant native plants. Because there are more habitat restoration projects than the city can undertake, efforts by volunteers are critical to our success. While improving parks in their neighborhoods, volunteers get valuable hands-on experience that they can use in their own yards.

If you’re looking for a way to become more involved in the city of Minnetonka, consider applying to serve on a board or commission. Openings are available on the community commission, planning commission and senior citizen advisory board
Applications are due Monday, March 22. Accepted applications are kept on file for one year to fill any unexpected vacancies, with interviews taking place as necessary.
