Elections
A special election to fill the vacant Council Member, At Large Seat B is set for February 14, 2012.
The seat will become vacant when former Council Member Amber Greves resigns the position in December.
Here are some important dates for the special election:
- Dec. 7 to Dec. 19
- Candidate filing period
- Dec. 21
- Last day for a candidate to withdraw
- Jan. 13 to Feb. 13
- Absentee voting period
- Jan. 23
- Last day to register to vote prior to the special election
Potential candidates may file an affidavit of candidacy at City Hall, Wednesday, December 7 through Monday, December 19 during regular business hours (8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.). The office will be open on December 19, 2011 until 5 p.m. to accept filings. The filing fee is $5.
Absentee voting will be available for voters cannot get to the polling place on Election Day due to absence from the precinct; illness or disability; religious observance; or service as an election judge in another precinct.
Absentee voting for the special election begins on Friday, January 13 and continues through Monday, February 13. Voters may vote in person at Minnetonka City Hall during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Extended absentee voting hours will be available Saturday, February 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Monday, February 13, until 5 p.m.
Polling places will open at 7 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, and remain open until 8 p.m.
Staff is verifying the availability of the city’s 27 regular polling locations. If a polling place is unavailable, affected voters will be mailed a notice informing them of the location of their new polling place.

The Minnesota Secretary of State’s website now allows you to verify if you are currently registered to vote at your present address. To check your voter registration status go to: http://mnvotes.sos.state.mn.us/VoterStatus.aspx. You can also call city hall to find out if you are registered to vote.
